Cash spent today: It is the King's birthday today. Because I had won a £30 voucher for a meal at Damn Yankee, we had already decided to celebrate there. The food was okay, the service rather poor by even British standards, but we did like the diner decor. For four main courses, two puddings and four drinks, our bill came to £9. That was a good deal, but it went a bit downhill thereafter.
We had promised the children a visit to Waterstones to spend their World Book Day vouchers. You can exchange the vouchers for special little books - unfortunately these were either a bit babyish or too old for Prima and Secundus - or use them to get £1 a book worth £2.99 or more. Prima and Secundus, who rarely go in shops, were spoilt for choice. After some shepherding, we managed to get the kids to choose books from the Buy One Get One Half Price stand, but on reaching the till, we found we couldn't use the £1 vouchers in conjunction with this offer. Total spend in the bookshop: £9. I had spent all week saying we couldn't go to the book fair at school due to the poor selection of titles available, none of which were inexpensive, and now we find ourselves forking out nearly a tenner on an Easter colouring book and one about pants and pirates. Next year, I will not be promising that they can spend their vouchers; we should've picked something off amazon. Actually we shouldn't have bought anything at all - they have plenty of books already... Curse you, World Book Day!
Total spend £18.
